This is with-out doubt the most commonly asked question that I am asked.

 

“How much” is easy to answer:

£45/session commencing before 4.30 pm and £50/session commencing after 4.30 pm

£150/one-off smoking session

(Please note that prices inc. VAT and that some therapists publish them exc. VAT))

 

“How many sessions” is not so clear cut:

First off please read the page entitled: What is therapy? After having read that I would like to offer a simple guide, whereby on average most clients are with me for between 6 and 12 sessions. However in certain circumstances this may be fewer, or considerably more.

 

In any case please do not enter therapy if you expect “a miracle”. It is very important that you give yourself a fair chance to change. Also you will be provided with simple “homework”, that you must practice as an integral part of your therapy. Be assured that as a team I am at all times committed to applying my knowledge and experience to helping you bring about change in a safe and permanent way.

 

Smoking: is an exception. For most people who are:

¨ Highly motivated

¨ No longer getting any “enjoyment” from smoking

¨ Not dealing with recent trauma or bereavement

¨ Not in an exceptionally stressed place in their lives

a single, longer session lasting 60-90mins is often adequate to support them in their aim to stop smoking.

 

How often do I attend sessions?

 

Sessions should have a gap of between 3 days (min) and 14 days (max) between them. Most clients while working with me see me on a weekly basis.

 

Other things that you may want to know:

 

Confidentiality:

Confidentiality will be maintained in all but the most exceptional circumstances. These can only include: legal action (criminal or civil court cases where a court order is made demanding disclosure - includes coroners courts) and where there is good cause to believe that not to disclose would cause danger of serious harm to others. Most standards of confidentiality applied in professional contexts are based on the Common Law concept of confidentiality where the duty to keep confidence is measured against the concept of "greater good". The sharing of anonymous case histories with supervisors and peer-support groups is not a breach of professional confidentiality. The sharing of open case histories with supervisors and any referring NHS medical practitioner is also not a breach

 

Missed/late cancelled appointments:

(We do have a fair and open policy that respects the needs of the therapist as a human-being):

Cancellation (missing or rearranging the appointment for whatever reason, including illness, being held up in traffic etc.) with less than 48 hours notice (excluding weekends, bank holidays and pre notified therapist holidays) will incur a cancellation fee of £(normal session charge).       Notice provided must be done so via telephone. A non -returnable deposit of £(normal session charge)  will be held in regard to any cancellation fees so arising. If there are no such fees incurred the deposit will pay for the session that is agreed between the client and therapist as the final session. If this deposit should be forfeited during the course of the engagement the client will "top up the deposit". The final session must be arranged at least 48 hrs in advance. if there is no agreed final session, that is; should the client decide to not agree or attend a final session, the deposit will become forfeit after a period of 30 days from the previous session held.
